Astrantia are wonderful hardy perennials that offer a long season of interest in the garden & are also excellent as a cut flower. They are clump-forming herbaceous perennials with palmately lobed basal foliage & have sturdy branched stems with compact umbels of tiny flowers surrounded by a rosette of showy bracts on top ranging from pure white to deep intense burgundy-red with a hue of pinks, creams & greens in between. Grow them in humus-rich moisture-retentive soil – most Astrantia prefer dappled shade. That said! Darker cultivars can sometimes perform better in a sunnier place. Astrantia are a favourite hardy perennial of ours that we regularly include in our garden design exhibits at RHS Malvern Spring & RHS Chelsea Flower Shows – a perfect companion plant for our Camassia. Divide established clumps in spring, replant immediately & water in well. Astrantia split in this way may take a little time to settle as they do not enjoy having their root systems disturbed.
Our Astrantia are supplied in a 1 litre pot and are mature enough to be planted straight out into your garden.
