NEW BEGINNINGS
A warm welcome to 2023.
Not just a new year but new beginnings also for Hare Spring Cottage Plants.
In September 2022 we moved home & nursery from North Yorkshire to South Devon. Those of you who know me will not be surprised to hear this news as the South Hams area of South Devon has long been my happy place. Indeed it was where I first saw Camassia in full flight in an edge of woodland garden setting just 5 miles or so up the lanes from our new home!
Not for the faint hearted to undertake such a move and it needed something akin to military precision alone to carefully relocate our 3 National Plant Collections & circa. 15,000 pots of sales stock. Additionally there were the hundreds of oversized pots of hardy plants that we use for exhibiting in the Floral Marquees. These took up enormous amounts of space even after being cut back hard for their journey! The rest of the kit from a working nursery plus all the artefacts associated with exhibiting at all the major horticultural events in the UK were an exercise in planning in their own right. Three articulated lorries were needed to transport everything from North Yorkshire to South Devon. Quite an impressive convoy.
Our old & characterful Devonian cottage is a delight & comes with a garden which includes a woodland area with pathways in and amongst it. A stream meanders through all of the grounds and there is also a part walled garden that I am itching to create deep herbaceous borders within.
We will continue to open at certain times of the year, offer Private Visits, Nursery Workshops & will continue to raise money for charity through the sale of refreshments.
We invite you to come along on this new adventure with us and look forward to meeting you here in Devon, at one of the events we attend or one of the talks around the country that we give to groups & societies.
It feels like spring is just around the corner and our sap is rising too!
Happy Gardening!
